Aviwe Mandyanda is a scholar of urban planning and design based in Johannesburg. She holds a degree in urban planning and a masters in urban design from the University of Witwatersrand. She is a founding member of BlackStudio, a creative collective of young black urban planners, urban designers, and architects dedicated to conducting research, hosting public programs, and organizing exhibitions that explore the conceptualization and realization of black spatial imaginaries. 

Born Mdantsane, a township in East London, South Africa; lives in Johannesburg, South Africa
