Eduardo O. Kohn is a cultural anthropologist whose research centers on the ethnographic study of human-animal relations and its implications for rethinking the field of anthropology. His long-term study of how the Quichua (Quechua)–speaking Runa of Ecuador’s Upper Amazon inhabit the tropical forest informs the development of what he terms “anthropology of life”—an anthropological framework that better accounts for interspecies interactions. He is the author of How Forests Think: Toward an Anthropology beyond the Human (University of California Press, 2013), for which he was awarded the 2014 Bateson Prize by the Society for Cultural Anthropology. Kohn is associate professor of anthropology at McGill University in Montreal.
