Chicago Architectural Biennial to Receive $50,000 Grant from the National Endowment for the Arts
CHICAGO (February 13, 2019) - National Endowment for the Arts Acting Chairman Mary Anne Carter has approved more than $27 million in grants as part of the Arts Endowment’s first major funding announcement for fiscal year 2019. Included in this announcement is an Art Works grant of $50,000 to the Chicago Architectural Biennial, the largest architecture and design exhibition in North America. Funding granted to the Chicago Architecture Biennial will go toward supporting community-based programming.
“This award from the NEA signals recognition of the Biennial as a respected voice in the national and international dialogue about architecture,” notes Chicago Architecture Biennial Chairman Jack Guthman. “We are proud and grateful to receive the Art Works grant in advance of our 2019 edition.”
The upcoming edition — entitled ...and other such stories — embraces a broad spectrum of perspectives on architecture to imagine space and the built environment anew and draws on the spatial, historical, and socio-economic conditions of Chicago to consider questions of land, memory, rights, and civic participation. Emanating from the central exhibition at the Chicago Cultural Center and extending into the city, the Biennial will feature a series of new commissions, residencies, partner projects, and public programs. The third edition of the Biennial will run from September 19, 2019 - January 5, 2020.
