Works that explore modernism as a way of visualizing a utopian future--where clarity, familiar geometry, and universal legibility builds better worlds--and as an ideology embedded with political fantasies and cultural turmoil. Artists such as Buckminster Fuller, David Hartt, Richard Misrach and more use mediums associated with architectural design, including photography, scale models, and schematic drawings, to examine how modernism is interpreted in Chicago and around the world.
