Dell Upton (UCLA): Putting Monuments in their Places

The Department of Art History at Northwestern University presents the Fall Warnock Lecture. Dell Upton, University of California, Los Angeles, will deliver a talk on recent struggles around Confederate monuments within American civic space. The author of What Can and Can't Be Said: Race, Uplift, and Monument Building in the Contemporary South (2015), Upton will consider Confederate statues in relation to European monuments to develop insights into the distinctive situation of the American South.
