As the Disruptive Design competition addressed one slice of the need—affordable single family or two-flat housing—the cost of creating single or multifamily affordable housing is rising every year. When wages cannot keep up with huge construction costs, the term “affordable” becomes meaningless to the thousands of families seeking safe, comfortable places to live within their budget.
