Like many other major cities across America, Chicago is in dire need of affordable housing. As the Disruptive Design competition addressed one slice of the need—affordable single family or two-flat housing—the cost of creating single or multifamily affordable housing is rising every year. When wages cannot keep up with huge construction costs, the term “affordable” becomes meaningless to the thousands of families seeking safe, comfortable places to live within their budget.
Join us for a panel of housing experts to learn more about why construction costs are high and rising; and, what architects, designers, developers, and politicians are doing to tackle the problem.
